A Series of Blogs: Stories my Mother Told Me
I wrote this series of blogs as a preface in many ways to the next blog that I am about to write. I felt it important to make my views on certain matters clear instead of trying to mix them in with a blog addressing the curriculum.
So here they are:
Stories my Mother Told Me about Race
Stories my Mother Told Me (and her Grandparents Told Her) About Neighbours
Stories my Mother Told Me about Family
Stories my Mother Told Me and What I Learnt about Teachers (Part One)
Stories my Mother Told Me and What I Learnt about Teachers (Part Two)
I am not sure that these have particularly chimed with Twitter folk as some other posts have but then again, as I realised today, sometimes the posts that we write are sometimes more valuable to others later than at the time.
So whenever or whoever does read them, I hope that they contribute to our thoughts and ideas about how we move forward rather than remain in the past. Also, this is in many ways for all those people I have known who understand because they can not merely take sides when their experiences just do not match with the views of racists of any description.
And yes it is racism if the colour of someone’s skin matters more to you than the relationship you have with them.
